New BMW 7 Series Hybrid surfaces in Malaysia

The all-new BMW 7 Series (740Le xDrive) Hybrid with eDrive Technology has been introduced by BMW Malaysia, today. The retail price of the new BMW 740Le xDrive is RM 598,800.00, after subsidization for Hybrids.

As expected from BMW’s flagship sedan, the new 7 Series takes up a limousine persona with a majestic presence and wheelbase proportions equal to its predecessor. At the same time, the 740Le XDrive has impressive 19-inch Double-Spoke light alloy wheels to give the large sedan a commanding road presence. The model also carries future-oriented elements from the BMW i.

Model-specific features conveying the best of conventional and innovative driving capabilities of the new BMW 7 Series Hybrid with eDrive Technology include the eDrive badges adorning the C-pillars and the BMW i logos which graces the front side panels.

Moving to the inside, the new 7 Series is all about a visionary design and creative functionality. Highlights include the BMW Touch Display with Gesture control for the on-board monitors, Ambient light in six variations with Welcome light, panoramic Sky Lounge glass roof, BMW Touch Command control unit (rear), a removable 7-inch tablet, 16-Speaker 600w Harman Kardon Surround Sound System, and rear seats with massage function. The luxury sedan’s upholstery is lined with exclusive Nappa leather, while the interior trim finishes in Poplar Grain Grey fine-wood.

Command over the new plug-in hybrid luxury sedan can be achieved via the BMW Connected app which allows one to not only monitor the performance of the car but also dictate the interior atmosphere. Through the BMW Connected app, the driver can govern interior comfort by controlling the auxiliary air conditioning function from a smartphone. The BMW Connected app also empowers one to monitor charge levels of the high-voltage battery, the locations of charging stations, and the distance covered on electric power alone and the consequent amount of petrol saved.

The various status data for the vehicle and the operation of selected functions can also be conducted with the BMW Display Key via its integrated Touch Display. Furthermore, the eDrive button located on the center console allows the driver to dictate the configuration of the plug-in hybrid drive system such as; AUTO eDrive, MAX eDrive and Battery Control modes; along with standard modes like ECO PRO, COMFORT and SPORT.

The new BMW 740Le xDrive bridges the best innovations in combustion engines and electric drive systems to create an electrifying performance with significantly reduced emissions and similarly lowered fuel consumption. Powering the 740Le xDrive is the latest 2.0 liter four-cylinder in-line engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo expertise derived from the EfficientDynamics engine family. The most potent of its breed ever to be fitted into a series-produced BMW model, the combustion engine develops a maximum output of 258 hp with a peak torque of 400 Nm.

Paired with an equally optimized eight-speed Steptronic transmission, the new BMW 740Le xDrive charts a top speed of 250 km/h. The new engine also embodies a suite of technology comprising a TwinScroll turbocharger integrated into the cast-steel exhaust manifold, High Precision Injection with a peak pressure of 200 bar, double-VANOS for greater torque and elastic power, and the latest version of the highly advanced VALVETRONIC technology.

Meanwhile, the eDrive expertise derived from the BMW i stands on the principle of a permanently exciting synchronous motor, enabling the car to accomplish a phenomenally notable maximum output of 113 hp and a peak torque of 250 Nm in pure electric driving mode. The electric driving range of the new 740Le xDrive based on NEDC cycle is 41 km.

The consequent boost effect to the combustion engine bestows the driver with thrillingly reflexive responses. Fully integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic transmission system, the electric motor also assumes the role of a generator which runs on either the efficient lifting of the engine’s load points or by recuperating braking energy, depending on the hybrid mode selected. Energy generated is then channelled to the high-voltage battery.

Together, the combustion engine and the electric drive system engenders a combined output of 326 hp and a peak torque of 500 Nm. This enables 0 – 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. The new BMW 740Le xDrive registers a mere fuel consumption of 2.5l/100km and a CO2 emission of 56 g/km. Meanwhile, the electric power consumption of the sedan is an impressive 13.9 kWh per 100 km.

With a gross energy capacity of 9.2 kWh, the high-voltage lithium-ion battery of the new BMW 740Le xDrive can be recharged from any domestic power socket. Moreover, full charge through the BMW i Wallbox Connect can be achieved in under five hours and the charging process managed via either the BMW Remote app on a smartphone or the graphic in the car’s instrument cluster.

As part of the BMW 360° Electric program, owners of the new BMW 740Le xDrive join those of the BMW i8, BMW 330e and BMW X5 xDrive40e in enjoying easy access to GreenTech Malaysia’s network of 181 ChargEV stations nationwide through the BMW ChargeNow mobility service.

The new BMW 740Le xDrive takes the Driving Experience Control, engageable via a switch on the center console, to the next level with the introduction of the ADAPTIVE mode which mobilises the car’s responses to adapt to the driver’s style and route profile.

Taking Sheer Driving Pleasure a notch higher is the industry leading BMW xDrive system which is now made available for the first time in a BMW sedan in Malaysia. The intelligent all-wheel drive system is the fastest reacting and most flexible all-wheel drive system in its segment. xDrive operates proactively and enables fully variable drive power to be distributed when needed between the front and rear axles when needed, even delivering up to almost 100 percent of power to every wheel.

Finally, the chassis of the new BMW 740Le xDrive includes two-axle air suspension with automatic self-levelling and Dynamic Damper Control which allows minimal interruption to ride comfort.

Driver assistance systems and safety features come in the form of a suit of BMW head-up display, Parking Assistant, Driving Assistant Plus and Surround View systems, as well as a plethora of airbags, ISOFIX and Active Protection System; just to name a few.

The New BMW 740Le xDrive is available in Black Sapphire, Imperial Blue, Mineral White, and Sophisto Grey body hues.
