BMW Malaysia reports uptrend Electrified vehicle sales

In the first four months of 2018, BMW Electrified vehicle sales worldwide totalled 36,692 units, a growth of 41.7% over the same period last year. On the loccal front, BMW Malaysia reported their portfolio of Plug-In Hybrid deliveries now accounts for 52.7% of its total vehicle deliveries; up till end of April.

First part of the year, BMW Malaysia introduced two new plug-in hybrid vehicles: the BMW 530e Sport and 5 Series Hybrid with eDrive Technology. Aside from BMWs, the MINI Countryman Plug-In Hybrid made its debut as well.

The quest to put up more charging stations

BMW Malaysia also expanded accessibility to electric vehicle and Plug-In Hybrid vehicle charging facilities nationwide, installing i Charging Stations at WEIL Hotel in Ipoh, the first in the state of Perak with its dealer partner Tian Siang Premium Auto; Holiday Inn Melaka and The Equatorial Melaka, the firsts in the State of Melaka with dealer partner Seong Hoe Premium Motors, and at CityONE Megamall Kuching, the first in the State of Sarawak with dealer partner Regas Premium Auto Sarawak.

Collaborating with the Malaysian Green Technology Corporation, BMW Malaysia’s portfolio of Visionary Mobility with the BMW iPerformance and MINI Electric vehicles are also supported by the ChargEV platform, which has a growing network of more than 270 charging facilities nationwide.

Driving the Future of Electro Mobility further in Malaysia, BMW Malaysia also showcased the BMW i3, BMW’s best-selling electric car in the premium compact segment worldwide at the recent 2018 Malaysia Autoshow. The dynamic electric car was made available to be test driven by the public. Over 40 members of the public took the opportunity to test drive the car.

BMW 530e Sport

The BMW 530e Sport has a signature frontal feature, highlighted by the air stream kidney grille, LED headlights and DRLs, as well as a high-gloss black front bumper. The ‘530e’ badge highlights the car as a plug-in hybrid variant. From the rear, the 530e Sport has double round exhaust tailpipes; and completing the exterior is the 19-inch V-Spoke wheels.



The interior of the 530e Sport is largely identical to the current 5 Series line-up. However, eDrive Tech variant does include several highlights such as illuminated sill panels bearing “eDrive” lettering, a cabin in high-gloss black with ambient lighting, leather steering wheel and a 12-speaker HiFi system.

Powering the new BMW 530e Sport is the latest-generation inline 4-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo 2.0-liter petrol engine which generates 184hp and 320 Nm of torque. Combined with the BMW eDrive system’s state-of-the-art electric motor, the 530e Sport has an overall system output of 252hp and 420 Nm of torque, enabling the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds. Top speed is set at 235 km/h.
