BMW X5 is second locally-assembled variant introduced this year

The X5 SAV is the latest locally-assembled BMW variant to be announced by BMW Malaysia. The X5 becomes the 15th variant to be domestically manufactured at BMW Malaysia’s Kulim plant in the Northern State of Kedah.

Operational since 2008, the BMW Malaysia Assembly Plant in Kulim has been an integral part of the premium automaker’s success in the country with a production run of more than 8,000 units to date. The X5, in xDrive 35i and xDrive 30d versions, is the second variant to be manufactured domestically this year.

New elements for the CKD X5 are homed in on the interior and Driver Assistant systems. The new BMW X5 xDrive35i now incorporates an electrical Panorama glass roof, 9.2-inch screens as part of the standard rear entertainment package, and additional seats on the third row. And via a remote control, occupants at the back are able to operate the radio, navigation, and with BMW ConnectedDrive, they are able to access BMW Apps or surf the Net.

In addition, the locally-assembled BMW X5 is all about offering a unique range of functionality and an updated range of mobility services. Notable highlights include; the BMW HUD (Head-Up Display), which is now available in the X5 xDrive30d, as well as the Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning and City Collision Warning. Lane Departure is based on a video sensor to help drivers keep their attention on the road ahead by recognizing when the vehicle is straying out of lane unintentionally. Forward Collision Warning and City Collision Warning assist to prevent collisions by automatically braking; at speeds of up to 60 km/h.

BMW M’sia Chief Dr. Gerhard Pils commented, “The new BMW X5 is the second locally assembled vehicle we have introduced this year alone, further demonstrating that the expansion of our assembly line is a key strategy in BMW’s production roadmap for the country.”

BMW X5 xDrive 30d and xDrive 35i prices and availability

Scheduled to hit BMW showrooms on 30 and 31 August, the X5 xDrive 35i is priced at RM 579,800.00 and the X5 xDrive30d is RM 539,800.00.
