Concept i4 showcases the future of Pure Electric Gran Coupe by BMW

BMW has just introduced the next all-electric model in the form of the Concept i4. This concept is a pure-electric Gran Coupe and expected to go into production in 2021 in the form of the BMW i4.

In this preliminary stage, BMW Concept i4 has a range of up to 600 km (WLTP). The output can push up to 530 hp, which enables 0 – 100 km/h sprint in 4 seconds. Of course, the figures are just expected figures.

What’s makes the future BMW Gran Coupe so attractive?

First off, BMW has confirmed that elements of the Concept i4 would make appearance in several all-electric production models, to be released in the near future.

As for the Concept i4, the four-door Gran Coupe has its intended purposes. Highlights include the blanked-off kidney grille, Frozen Light Copper paintjob, clear aero lip wheel design, Blue elements (incl. rear i Blue diffuser), a new emblem, and a host of aerodynamic features. All the above are pretty much exclusive for the Concept i4.

Inside, the cabin highlights the BMW Curved Display with the purposeful steering; a setup that will be used in the production versions of the BMW iNEXT and BMW i4. Everything is integrated to the curved display screen to minimize control switches. Then, there’s the accent strips in warm Gold Bronze blending to chrome lend the interior a luxurious touch. The central control panel, finished in crystal glass, replaces a traditional gear lever with a toggle-type shifter. It houses the iDrive Controller and seat memory buttons.

Upholstery is a cloth/leather combination, along with the head restraints. The rear offers manageable head- and leg-room for occupants.

The BMW Concept i4 offers three modes of experience: Core, Sport and Efficient. The particular mode chosen is highlighted by graphics and ambient lighting in the dashboard, doors and below the display.

The sound system in the Concept i4 is presented by World-famous composer Hans Zimmer and BMW designers. The car has aural accompaniments to opening the door and starting the car.

Soon to go into production, the BMW i4 features the fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology The electric car’s motor, power electronics, charging unit and high-voltage battery are all-new developments. The electric motor developed for the BMW i4 generates maximum output of up to 530 hp, which ranks it alongside a current BMW V8 combustion engine. Meantime, the battery in the i4 weighs roughly 550 kilograms and has an energy content of around 80 kWh.

BMW has confirmed that the i4’s production is slated for 2021.
