Continental kicks off Road Safety Campaign for CNY

2016 Continental Road Safety campaign Continental Tyre Malaysia, in partnership with Shell Malaysia, has kicked off its annual CNY (Chinese New Year) Road Safety Campaign. Starting now until 31 January, the Continental-Shell road safety campaign is aimed at educating the general motorist to cultivate tyre safety habits and prioritize vehicle maintenance to ensure an incident-free drive back to their hometowns during the CNY break.

The purpose of this annual road safety campaign is to consistently remind road users to be extra cautious during the drive back to their hometowns. For the pre-CNY hiatus, Continental Tyre advises road users to perform tyre maintenance, if possible on a regular basis, and ensure their vehicles’ tyres are in good condition for the hiatus drive. If vehicles’ tyres are properly upkept and maintained, risk of accidents are indefinitely reduced and ultimately, motorists arrive safe and sound to their intended destinations for the CNY.

“Tyres are the sole point of contact between the vehicle and the road. In a critical situation, it is the tyre that determines whether the vehicle can stop in time, or whether it stays safely on course through a corner. This is why car drivers should be aware of the safety benefits of using high-tech tyres such as Continental’s, inflated to the correct pressure and with adequate tread depth,” Cameron Wilson, Managing Director of Continental Tyre PJ Malaysia, said.

“Studies from different tyre manufacturers prove over and over again that more than 50 percent of all passenger cars permanently are driven with underinflated tyres. Tests with underinflated tyres show increased risk of adverse safety consequences in emergency situations. Clearly, correct tyre inflation pressure and sufficient tread depth mean fewer accidents and this can mean the difference between life and death. And this is the key message that we hope to spread to the entire nation.”

The Continental-Shell road safety campaign, being a corporate social responsibility initiative, is certainly a means in complementing the efforts of Jabatan Keselamatan Jalan Raya (JKJR) to promote road safety awareness and education. To create this awareness, Continental Tyre Malaysia will conduct tyre safety and car engine oil checks at 15 Shell petrol stations nationwide. This initiative has already started at Shell petrol stations in the capital City from 9 January.

Participants of CNY road safety campaign are eligible for a tyre maintenance booklet, Continental premiums and a RM30 voucher, as well as Shell vouchers for discounted lubricants purchase and free fuel cash vouchers. In addition, JKJR is giving away 100 complimentary SIRIM approved helmets for bikers at selected Shell stations. The Continental-Shell CNY road safety campaign has already been activated at fifteen Shell stations, from 10 am till 8 pm daily.
