|The weekend’s NST-COTY (Car of the Year) at the MATRADE Convention Center in Kuala Lumpur is the place to be for all car buffs and enthusiasts. This year’s edition presents plenty exciting surprises and of course, the latest car variants from participating exhibitors.|
Auto Distributors that stand out at the 2013 COTY are; Peugeot Malaysia (Nasim), Volkswagen, Kawasaki, Chevrolet (Naza Quest), Suzuki and Aston Martin. Peugeot M’sia is previewing its fabulous 208 GTi which has yet to hit the domestic market, and at the same time, there are the desired Peugeot RCZ in its updated guise and the 3008 Crossover MPV; all part of the attraction at the unmistakable red and black Peugeot booth.
The 208 GTi, the latest hot hatch from Peugeot, gets additional dynamic contours all around from the 3D ‘floating’ chequered flag-design front grille engraved with Peugeot Red and re-designed headlights to the signature rear spoiler and geometric exhaust. A black color scheme with red accents across the doors and dashboard gives the 208 GTi its indefinite sporty and performance-oriented charms. Further interior highlights include the ‘floating’ instrument panel with red LEDs around the gauges, chequered dial backgrounds of black & aluminium, and the 7-inch multi-function color touch screen. If looks just isn’t everything for you, then check out the performance of the hot hatch 1.6l turbocharged engine, paired to a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission; the powertrain offers an impressive 200 bhp and a 0 – 100km/h sprint in a mere 6.8 seconds.
Volkswagen continues to cultivate its ‘Think Blue’ global initiative and displays almost its entire line-up at COTY, from the Polo Sedan to the recently introduced Golf GTi. Over at the other end of the exhibition hall, Chevrolet M’sia showcases its current line-up which consists several existing variants in updated guises; the Sonic, Cruze, Colorado, Orlando and Captiva.
Kawasaki takes up a major spot on the upper deck of the MATRADE convention center with its barrage of motorcycles, spearheaded by its popular Ninja range. Also on the upper deck, Ducati (Next Bike) is showcasing its Strada GP Edition and the recently announced Diavel Stripe bike. Let’s home in on the Strada GP edition in a prominent black color (the only option), the bike takes on these features: wide side panniers, a tourer seat, touring windshield and passenger back-rest. This bike is also available as another variant, the Diavel Strada GP Sports Edition; which includes the Temignoni full exhaust system.
Moving to the outside, Aston Martin is lining up its greatest collection of fascinating cars from the Classics to current variants to acknowledge the brand’s Centennial celebrations. A host of other distinguishing marques are displaying their heritage variants at COTY, namely Porsche with the 911 – in observation of the variant’s 50th anniversary, Chevrolet brings forth its Corvette Stingray, Lamborghini displays the Diablo and several variants – to mark its 50th year in existence, and many more.
So, don’t hesitate and hop over to the MATRADE Convention Center for the COTY show!
