Recently, Naza Italia, the official importer and distributor of Ferrari brand in Malaysia opened their fresh-faced Ferrari showroom in Petaling Jaya. To celebrate this joyous occasion, Ferrari also introduce Ferrari’s first series production PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), the SF90 Stradale.
The name SF90 is a reference to the 90th anniversary of the foundation of Scuderia Ferrari and the Stradale which translates to road. This is perfectly demonstrate Ferrari’s immediate transition of knowledge and skills from motorsport to production cars.
Powering the SF90 Stradale is the award winning turbocharged V8 engine that is link to a three motor MGUK (Motor Generated Unit, Kinetic) that pushes up to 1,000bhp. The electric motors are being split into 2 at the front axle and 1 at the rear. To send all these power to the ground, Ferrari uses the new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and the 3 electric motor to make it All-Wheel Drive.
This makes the SF90 Stradale the 1st ever V8 engine Ferrari to become the flagship model in the Ferrari range. The whole hybrid powertrain allow the SF90 to accelerate to 100km/h in 2.5 seconds, while 200km/h is achieve in an impressive 6.7seconds.
To broaden the driving dynamics of the SF90, Ferrari manage to tune the motors at the front axle to work independently. Ferrari call this the RAC-e (electronic cornering set-up regulator). Apart from providing propulsion, Ferrari also create the torque vectoring effect by controlling the torque delivery to allow the drivers to push to the car’s limit easier.
With the hybrid system, there will always have the challenge of weight management. In order to achieve that, the SF90 are being built using multi-material technology such as carbon fibre to keep the overall weight, rigidity, and centre of gravity in check.
Aerodynamic has always been part of the development of any Ferrari, naturally, the SF90 will get this treatment as well. Ferrari added new solution to strike a balance between increasing downforce, reducing drag and keeping the 1,000 bhp powertrain cooled. The highlight within the Ferrari aerodynamic system is the shut-off Gurney system. This Ferrari patented active system that is located at the rear of the car to regulate air-flow over the upper body, reducing drag at high speeds with low lateral dynamics loads and increasing downforce in corners, under braking and during changes of direction.
To ensure the drivers to keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel, Ferrari created a HMI (Human-Machine Interface) and interior layout concept that are different from previous Ferrari. The major innovation is the steering wheel now comes with touchpad and a series of haptic buttons that allow the driver to control every aspect of the car with just their thumbs.
Another 1st for Ferrari is the fully digital instrument cluster that is made out of a 16” curved HD screen which can be fully configured and controlled using the controls on the steering wheel. Ferrari also made the automatic gearbox control into a grille-style feature that references Ferrari’s legendary manual gear shift gate.
The SF90 Stradale also feature a new ignition key with full keyless technology which will gradually be introduced across the rest of the range, personalised with the model’s name. And for the first time, Ferrari buyers can choose between a standard or sports-oriented SF90. The sports-oriented SF90 will get significant upgrade including Special GT racing-derived Multimatic shock absorbers, extra lightweight features made from high-performance materials such as carbon-fibre (door panels, underbody) and titanium (springs, entire exhaust line), resulting in a weight-saving of 30 kg. Another difference is the high downforce carbon-fibre rear spoiler which generates 390 kg of downforce at 250 km/h.
The Ferrari SF90 Stradale is available from the base price of RM 1,908,000.00 (before duties, customization options, taxes and insurance). For further details, contact the Ferrari Malaysia Showroom.
New Showroom In Petaling Jaya
The fresh-faced Ferrari Petaling Jaya showroom is a double-storey showroom, which was revitalized in accordance with Ferrari’s new Corporate Identity design. Naza Italia invested RM3.5 million to renovate and refurbish the showroom to reflect Ferrari’s new Corporate Identity (CI), which is one of the first few dealers in South East Asia to implement these design considerations.
The new showroom is built over 2 floors covering a total of 11,900 sq ft, and can accommodate up to 7 cars at any given moment. The Ferrari Petaling Jaya showroom is situated at Naza Italia, adjacent to the nation’s only authorised service centre for Ferrari. This location has been the main hub for Ferrari in Malaysia since 2009.
