Highway toll rates reduced by 10 percent during CNY period

With the Lunar New Year festivities a week away, the citizens get set for their annual back-to-hometown trips from next week onwards. In conjunction with the CNY (Chinese New Year), ANIH Berhad, the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway consensus company, and East Pantai Phase 1 have announced discounted toll rates of 10 percent for motorists of all classes. The discounted toll rate during the festive period is applicable for users of Touch ‘N Go access card or Smartag.

The discounted toll rate will commence on 12.00 a.m. until 11.50 p.m. from 28 January. Besides the discounted toll rate, the highway authorities have prepared scheduled travel hours as a guide to road users on trip planning within the peak and non-peak hours, especially essential for folks traveling to East Malaysia. The purpose of this initiative is to ease expected heavy traffic during the mad-rush back to respective destinations. The other reason for the suggested travel hours is to prevent from accidents or road fatalities, especially during the night.

In addition, the highway authorities reiterated that it is important for motorists to adhere to the scheduled or suggested travel hours during the CNY to ease traffic coming from the Gombak toll, Bentong toll and Karak toll plazas. With limited lanes, the authorities expect a crawl on the exit of these toll plazas during the festive period, particularly on the first few days of the CNY. Motorists are encouraged to observe digital traffic signs whenever they are available on the highways to get the latest information on traffic conditions. The Authorities will constantly update traffic conditions during peak travelling hours to inform motorists on road hazards, accidents and general traffic conditions.

Meantime, the highway authorities are advising motorists to update their Touch ‘N Go access cards whenever possible prior to travelling and make sure there’s sufficicent allocated amount in their cards. This would prevent them from having to reload their cards at the highway tolls, which could cause delays. Additionally, motorists should be aware that reloads at the toll plazas follow traffic conditions. If the traffic increases, the toll operators are likely to close reload counters at toll plazas to prevent congestion. For the KL-Karak highway route, reloads are possible at Gombak toll, Bentong toll, Karak toll, Temerloh toll and Kuanran toll plazas. These toll plazas operate from 7.00 a.m until 10.00 p.m. daily.

Finally, motorists are advised to refer to the TTA schedule on ANIH Berhad’s webpage at www.anihberhad.com or follow their Twitter feeds @LPTTrafik. For FB users, the East Pantai Highway (Lebuhraya Pantai Timur) facebook page also feature the latest traffic updates.
