The Hyundai IONIQ has been awarded Best Small Hatch at the UK Car of the Year Awards 2017, beating competition from the Renault Megane and MINI Clubman.
The IONIQ received praise from all the COTY judges for its green powertrains, combined with a chassis that delivers a good driving experience and its stylish body design.
Tony Whitehorn, President and CEO, Hyundai Motor UK, said, “IONIQ has only been available since October yet has already received praise for its eco credentials and also its more mainstream capabilities.”
“The award for Best Small Hatch from the UK COTY judges once again proves that Hyundai is offering exactly what the market wants – eco-friendly vehicles that drive well and look good that are also cost effective to run,” he added.
Ioniq – along with 11 other winning cars – will now go forward to a final category to decide the overall UK Car of the Year 2017. The winner will be announced on 24th February 2017.
Hyundai IONIQ in Malaysia
Available in HEV versions, the Hyundai IONIQ was unveiled in late November by distributors Hyundai Sime Darby Motors. The locally-assembled Hyundai IONIQ HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) is offered in two variants, HEV and HEV +, at a starting price of RM 99,888.
The new Hyundai IONIQ HEV incorporates two key influences; efficiency and technology in its design, which is combined to create a unique and future-looking appearance. The eco-friendly and high-tech features are met consistently throughout the IONIQ, including the attractive styling of the car as form and function combine seamlessly.
Similar to the exterior, the interior of the IONIQ captures the model’s futuristic perspective and draws on the car’s eco-friendly and hybrid credentials. A ‘Purified High-Tech’ concept was established, which then evolved into the refined interior of the IONIQ.
The Hyundai IONIQ is offered in seven color choices in the country; Phantom Black, Polar White, Platinum Silver, Aurora Silver, Iron Grey, Marina Blue and Phoenix Orange (HEV Plus).
