In Malaysia, pick up has become a popular choice for certain people for some reason or the other. For those familiar with pick ups, the Toyota Hilux comes to mind in an instant, alongside the Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Triton and the Isuzu D-Max. Based on the popularity of the Hilux in West and East Malaysia, Toyota Malaysia has introduced the upgraded versions which are already available for bookings at dealerships around the country.
The 2020 Toyota Hilux line-up is offered in five variants, including a new variant the Double Cab 2.4 E A/T, Double Cab 2.8 Rogue A/T (replacing the Black Edition), Double Cab 2.4 V A/T, and the base variants Double 2.4 G and Single Cab 2.4, both with manual transmission.
Making the Hilux tougher
To make the Toyota Hilux look tougher, there’s a new front bumper to match the new grille and foglight bezels. The top-of-the-line Hilux 2.8 Rogue gets a new hood and skid plates, as well as new 17- and 18-inch wheels.
For the Hilux 2.8 Rogue variant, the inside receives new trimmings, including new dial meters with MID, illuminated door trim garnish and key cover. The base variants only gets the new dial meters. Check with your local Toyota dealers for further information.
The Hilux continues to be fitted with a 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine with slightly increased output, which is now 204PS (a 27PS increase) and 500Nm (up by 50Nm increase). Toyota claims that fuel consumption remains low despite the output increase.
The 2020 Hilux comes standard with LSD (Limited Slip Differential) along with traction control and the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) suite. TSS consists of Pre-Collision System (PCS), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) and Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Yaw Assist.
There are seven color options for the Hilux: Bronze Mica Metallic (New), Crimson Spark Red Metallic, Attitude Black Mica, Phantom Brown Metallic, Medium Silver Metallic, Silver Metallic and Super White II. The starting variant Single Cab Hilux is only offered with White. Estimated prices run from RM93,880 onwards all the way up to RM148,880 for the Hilux 2.8 Rogue.
