Kia Sorento in updated guise joins Naza Kia’s line-up

Kia Sorento refreshed for the year Naza Kia Malaysia today added the facelifted Kia Sorento to replace the aged large SUV in conjuction with the upcoming Kia Customer Day from 16 – 17 March. With the updated Kia Sorento, Naza Kia has its second variant of the year amongst the 6,7 new Kia variants to be introduced in due time.

Kia Sorento: Powertrain

Incorporating a 2.4-litre DOHC dual continuous variable valve timing (DCVVT) Thetha II engine, the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Kia Sorento can deliver 176 PS and 227 Nm of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission with Manumatic provides inputs to the wheels.

Kia Sorento: What’s new on the outside

Kia Sorento refreshed aplenty at the rear

The updated Kia Sorento’s outside aesthetics are inherited from the current Sorento, saved for the “Tiger Nose” front grille, new LED daytime running lights, vertical-axis fog lamps with static bending lights. The sides take on LED turn-signals and chrome-plated door handles with pocket lights. At the rear, the large SUV gets the most add-ons such as, new tailgate, reshaped LED combi. lights, a body-colored matching bumper, vertical fog lamps and a spoiler. In all, there are 33 new additions all round the latest Kia Sorento.

Interior-wise, the Kia Sorento incorporates a 7-inch color thin film transistor (TFT) LCD supervision instrument cluster, a 4.3-inch LCD touch-screen CD/MP3 audio system; Bluetooth/AUX/iPod/USB compatible; with 6 speakers and a rear view camera, dual climate control air-conditioners on the center of the dashboard, and the rear passengers even get a/c vents with two temperature switches. On the roof, the latest Sorento has a wider panoramic sunroof that’s controlled by a motor-driven roller blind and is retractable at the front. Meanwhile, ‘mood’ lights offers important illumination inside the SUV after dusk. Other features inside include; a push-start button with a smart key, leather interior, steering with audio switches, electronically-foldable mirrors and leather-wrapped gear shifter. Cabin space has increased somewhat, especially on the second and third rows as a result of a lower floor height of 10 mm.

The Kia Sorento is more robust than its predecessor thanks to a more rigid chassis, especially at the joint areas. Further, NVH has been improved, much accredited to three-layer noise reduction materials in the engine bay and a new sound insulator in the transmission tunnel. In the safety features list, the Sorento is instilled a high rigidity body shell, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Assist Control (HAC), ABS and six airbags.

Naza Kia has delivered up to 1,854 units in the first two month of the year, with the all-new Kia Rio making the headwaves since its debut in January. The figures represented a 12 percent spike in sales compared to last year’s period. As the Sorento joins the foray and soon-to-be-revealed variants, Naza Kia expects sales to push up to 15,000 units for the year.

Kia Sorento: Availability

The Kia Sorento is offered in four color choices; Snow Pearl White, Bright Silver, Glittering Metal and Mahogany Brown, at an on-the-road price of RM158,888, similar to the previous Sorento, inclusive of a five -year warranty with unlimited mileage.
