|Lexus Malaysia has provided a first glimpse of the Lexus NX, the marque’s first compact Crossover. The Lexus NX compact Crossover is slated for its WORLD premiere at the Beijing Motor Show from 20 April. (click to enlarge)|
Based on the current LF-NX Concept previously showcased at last year’s Frankfurt and Tokyo Motor shows, the production version is bound for its Asian debut in China’s capital city. The NX exterior expresses aggressive yet highly functional performance and an agility not usually associated with an SUV. Front and rear flares fused to the body at the spindle grille meld with bold, flared wheel arches housing 17 or 18-inch wheels. The crouching, muscular stance of a ‘Tiger’ looks nimble while hinting at a hidden ‘Dragon’ within.
A roofline peak towards the back of the vehicle provides ample headroom and accentuates the side profile, creating a tight silhouette. At the same time, an innovative outer mirror and a world-first door handle mechanism (with a hidden key barrel and integrated lighting) add to the upper-class appearance. From the rear, the NX is punctuated by the signature ‘L’ shape combination LED lights.
Interior-wise, the Lexus NX evokes a premium and urban-typed compact Crossover with a well-positioned layout, metallic frame and trimmings, as well as materials that stress on maximizing functionality. The center silver frame, embedded into the instrument panel, symbolizes the sturdiness of the Crossover, and knee pads located on both sides, particularly at the front, firmly support the driver and passenger. Cabin design prioritizes seating and interior space. The NX possesses the lowest hip point in the segment, adding to the connection of the driver to the vehicle and increasing overall head room. The NX has the longest luggage load length and also offers wide front to rear couple distance.
Lexus NX fuses Human Machine Interface and a driver-oriented concept to offer an overall plush interior
Embedded in the center console, the intuitive interaction with Human Machine Interface (HMI) technology offers a direct expression of the NX’s advanced technology. Separate display and operation zones represent a further evolution of Lexus’ driver-oriented design concept.
An array of innovative on-board technology complements the Crossover. Enhancing the console are a Lexus-first Wireless Charging Tray for portable devices, the first application of a new Lexus Remote Touch Interface with a touch pad, and a Panoramic View Monitor and comprehensive Multi-information Display. Driving technology includes a Lexus-first G sensor and boost meter, Heads-Up Display, All-speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitor, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
2.0-liter powerplant, two- or four-wheel drive on the new Lexus NX
A 2.0-liter NA engine powers the NX 200t, with a choice of front or all-wheel drive. Lexus has proclaimed that the Crossover Stop and Start system promotes a better fuel economy. UMW Toyota Motor (Lexus Malaysia) didn’t provide a specific date for the NX’s domestic release, so stay tuned!
