Made-for-China Kia models and the Futuron Concept make debut at Auto Exhibition

Kia is making it big everywhere, with a latest showcase at China’s Guangzhou Automobile Exhibition, which runs from 22 November – 1 December. Obviously, everyone who has a showcase in China has to have a special model or two for the Chinese. Kia’s latest compact SUV KX3 is one such Chinese-specific model. The KX3 is known as the Seltos in other markets and one of the 10 models at the show.

The honorable mentions are the Futuron concept; the K3 midsize electric sedan (another made for China model), Soul Booster EV concept, a K3 China Touring Car Championship (CTCC) race car; new Kia K3 midsize sedan, 2020 K5 PHEV sedan, KX5 SUV and Sportage SUV. Kia is also showcasing the R.E.A.D (Real-time Emotion Adaptive Driving) System, a future mobility technology that deciphers drivers’ emotions and optimizes the in-vehicle environment.

First on the list is the New KX3 with its long hood and horizontal chrome lines on the front bumpe, as well as that Kia signature grille and LED headlightsr. The sides have shoulder lines and an athletic pose, thanks to  a 2,630-mm premium crystal-cut alloy wheelbase. From the rear, a chrome-enmeshed bumper and mufflers give it a dynamic look, Inside, highlights include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with UVO Connect and ambient lighting.

The KX3 takes up a 115PS 1.5-liter, paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It is also equipped with a set of Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Another made-for-china car Is the New K3 EV sedan. The K3 sedan is currently offered in petrol and plug-in hybrid options.

The star of the show is the Futuron concept SUV coupe with its sleek, silver frame and a “360-degree” themed bodywork. Kia’s design theme for this concept is gifted a “Star Cloud” lighting treatment. The Star Cloud lighting takes inspiration from nebulae in the night sky, as it gleams from a geometric patchwork of matrix LED lighting. The Futuron’s “Dragon Skin” surface, covering the lighting areas, emulates the armor-plated scales of a dragon as it exists both in mythology. Futuron’s electric powertrain and Level 4 autonomous driving systems create a spacious, flexible and autonomous cabin unlike any vehicle on the road. The two front seats, created out of flexible materials, can offer an upright driving position as well as a reclined rest position, similar to the flexibility enjoyed by first-class airline passengers.
