Mazda MX-5 RF: A Roadster you won’t want to miss

The Mazda MX-5 RF (hardtop), based on the fourth-generation world’s best selling Roadster, is the second MX-5 variant brought into the dometic market by Mazda Malaysia. Following an encouraging sales from the soft top version, Mazda Malaysia is confident that the hard top will emulate the success of the soft top, despite its RM248K price tag and limited quantity. The 2017 Mazda MX-5 RF will be available with manual or auto transmission. Due to the limited production, a waiting period of up to six months for interested customers is expected.

In looks, the MX-5 RF features a smooth roofline that curves down to the rear end, and its unique rear roof and retractable back window offer a new open-air feeling. Stowing the roof efficiently in the limited space available enables the Roadster RF to offer almost the same trunk space (127 liters) as the soft-top variant. The RF’s body-colored roof further illustrates the beauty of the roof line. Furthermore, 17-inch, 8-spoke chrome-finished aluminum wheels, painted in piano black, give the MX-5 RF an expressive stance.

Moving into the interior, the MX-5 RF’s cabin space conveys a sense of quality with the inception of high-quality Nappa leather upholstery, leather-wrapped steering, leather shifter knob, 9-speaker BOSE audio system with integrated headrest-mounted speakers, a 4.6-inch full-color TFT gauge and a seven-inch Mazda CONNECT touchscreen infotainment system, and LED head- and rear-lights.

The MX-5 RF is powered by the SKYACTIV-G 2.0 gasoline engine. With greater displacement than the engine in the soft-top version, it realizes a refined driving performance that matches the model’s core value: ‘Jibba Ittai’. Depending on the grade of the MX-5 RF available in the country, highlights to ensure more driving fun include optional bucket seats and Brembo brakes. Standard brakes comprise the 15-inch ventilated front disc, plus 15-inch solid rear disc.

On suspensions, the MX-5 RF inherits the soft-top’s double-wishbone and multilink suspension, in the front and rear, for that impecaable driving dynamics and sports car handling.

The MX-5 RF is available in 4 colors (Soul Red Metallic, Crystal White Pearl, Machine Grey and Jet Black) at a price of RM 248,182.65 including insurance.
