Mercedes-Benz Malaysia green lights new warehouse facility in Pekan

allcarschannel_ Mercedes-Benz Malaysia today gave the green light to start construction of a new warehouse at its primary Malaysian manufacturing facility in Pekan city, State of Pahang. The specially customized warehouse located in the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) Automotive Industrial Park is part of luxury brand’s on-going investment and expansion strategy in the country.

The 175,000 sq ft customized warehouse, located a mere three kilometers from the Pekan assembly plant, will be used to house completely knock down (CKD) kits for Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicles, as well as Mercedes-Benz and Mitsubishi FUSO commercial vehicles. The new warehouse will have a capacity of 180 complete lots at any one time.

Angel Legarda Martinez De Luco, Vice President of Production, commented, “This new custom-made warehouse signifies our unparalleled commitment to the Malaysian market. Since we first step up the assembly plant in Pekan in 2004 with an initial investment of RM250 million, the plan has always been to steadily grow. Recently we invested a considerable amount in preparing our assembly line and manpower to assemble the new Mercedes-Benz S400L Hybrid. Now this new warehouse is the next phase in our growth strategy.”

“Malaysia remains an important market for the brand, and we have set aside another RM100 million over a five-year period for Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s assembly plant. The new warehouse will be organized in such a way that provides synergies between logistics and manufacturing,” she added.

MBM’s (Mercedes-Benz Malaysia) new warehouse has been commissioned with the capability to accommodate future growth. Designed to be able to expand an additional 5,000 square meters in storage capacity, the warehouse is well equipped to handle future expansions. Construction of the warehouse will undertaken by Nilai Mahir (M), a subsidiary of the Hamodal Group. The warehouse construction is expected to begin in this month and will take approximately 15 months. The new MBM warehouse is expected to be fully operational by September 2015.

Dedicated to providing customers with uncompromising standards in every aspect of product and service, MBM has has invested more than RM500 million in the domestic market. The Mercedes-Benz assembly plant in Pekan, Pahang assembles the coveted Mercedes-Benz S-Class, E-Class and C-Class passenger vehicles, as well as Mercedes-Benz and Mitsubishi FUSO commercial vehicles. To date, the plant has produced a total of 33,790 units of passenger vehicles, and 18,215 units of commercial vehicles.
