Mitsubishi’s 2nd wave of eco car: the eco-sedan Attrage

2013 Mitsubishi Attrage_2 Just when you thought the Mitsubishi Mirage is the most efficient little car on the road in the country; out pops the Mitsubishi Attrage, the Mirage’s close sibling.

There are three choices in the Attrage line up: base GL (MT), GS and SE. Closely resembling its direct sibling, this 2nd eco car from Mitsubishi is all about fuel efficiency at 21 km/l. Its fuel ratings is based on NEDC, however Mitsubishi has alerted that the actual range and fuel consumption vary depending on driving patterns. Pertaining factors for the Attrage’s ‘super-low’ fuel consumption are the lightweight 1.2-liter 3-cylinder MIVEC engine that gives 78 PS, a corresponding 5-speed manual transmission, low co-efficient drag of 0.29, reduced rolling resistance, and a light gross weight of 875 kg (manual) and 905 kg (auto). When paired to the INVECS-III CVT automatic transmission, the Attrage provides a little less fuel efficiency at 18.4km/l.

Important safety features incorporated for the Attrage are; the dual-airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD). These features are usually rare for B-segment cars. A driver will find it easy to turn this little car thanks to its effective 4.8-meter turning radius, while occupants will appreciate its somewhat generous cabin space.

According to Mitsubishi M’sia, the Attrage has sold over 10,000 units in the first four months of its introduction in neighboring country Thailand. Mitsubishi M’sia, thus, has the confidence to sell 500 units of the Attrage a month. In addition, Mitsubishi Msia is on target to achieve its yearly sales target of 15,000 units for the year, for a market share of 4.9% in the non-national segment.
