Funky is a word that can be linked to a brand like Citroen. As we all know, the French are famous with their fashion and design industry, cars are also one of the items that have influence by the French fashion sense. We’ve seen how extraordinarily the Citroen C3 Aircross looks, and now, we’re given the chance to check out the equally funky looking Citroen Grand C4 Spacetourer.

Walking up to the C4 Spacetourer, you’ll first notice the huge brushed chrome piece that run from the a-pillar to the d-pillar on both sides of the MPV. This piece actually helps liven up the exterior. Upfront, the headlights are bi-xenon units that are split from the daytime running light. The headlights are directional, when you turn the steering wheel, you can see the headlights turn.

At the back, there is the 3D looking taillights that have an infinity void design inside it. You can appreciate the taillights design when you look at it closeup. At all 4 corners, there are the 205/55 R17 tyres that looks modern and fits the design of the car perfectly.

When getting a MPV, buyers will always look at the amount of storage space they can get inside the vehicle. The C4 Spacetourer didn’t disappoint us apart for the fairly small glove box where you find in most of the French cars. Starting from the dashboard, there is a center storage compartment below the dashboard for you to store all your loose items like your handphones, wallets, or any smaller items that can fit within that area; but you have to remember when you’ve store items inside this location before getting out of the car.

Moving to the center floor between the front seats, there is a huge removable storage compartment that you can remove it to store tall items. Storing items inside the removable compartment helps keeping the interior neat and tidy as you can cover the items with a sliding cover. If there are more items that you would like to store away from prying eyes, you can store the items inside one of the two storage compartment below the rear seat foot well.

Getting into a comfortable driving position in the C4 spacetourer is fairly easy, you get a mix of leather and fabric on the seats, even at the rear. Both of the front seats do come with massage function, but the massage function is considered light massaging. In the driver seat, you will notice the humungous windscreen that allowed plenty of light into the cabin. This huge windscreen also allows a wide viewing angle, there is not much blind spot due to the thin a-pillars. There is an extendable sunvisor to cover the upper part of the windscreen if you feel the heat is getting on your head.

The dashboard on this funky looking MPV is a fairly organize dashboard with a 12” panoramic HD central display that is being used as instrument cluster, and a smaller 7” infotainment system that allow you to adjust a wide range of settings for the car. The 12” central display is clear and shows plenty of information that usually shown in the instrument cluster and navigation map, but there is only 4 instrument cluster styles available to be use as the instrument cluster.

As for the 7” infotainment system, most of the settings are cramped into the small screen. The function of the infotainment system is similar to the C3 Aircross. The climate controls are also located inside the infotainment system, where it controls the temperature and the fan speed for the front. 2nd and 3rd row passengers have their individual fan speed controller located below the AC vent that is positioned on the b-pillars for the 2nd row, and the 3rd row AC vents and controls are located on the roof panel. Another thing you can find on the Dashboard is the gear lever that is located behind the steering wheel and it’s fairly easy to use.

Moving to the back, the 2nd row seats are individual seats instead of the usual bench seat. The individual seats make fitting adults into the 3rd row for short journey possible, and individual seats also meant that you can have 3 ISOFIX points on the 2nd row. The down side of having individual seats is that the seats tends to be on the smaller side compared to the usual 2nd row seats.

2nd row and 3rd row seats can be folded flat to further extend the boot space. With the 3rd row seats folded away, you’ll get 632L of boot space. If you need more space, the 2nd row seats can also be tucked away and give you up to 2,181L of boot space to load long item with ease.

To keep the family safe on the road, the Citroen Grand C4 Spacetourer does come with a whole host of safety system as standard. There are 6 airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distributor (EBD), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and the above mentioned 3 ISOFIX points. On the active safety front, the C4 Spacetourer comes equipped with Active safety braking up to 30km/h, and Speed limit recognition.

The power unit inside the Citroen Grand C4 Spacetourer can be found across a wide range of Citroen and Peugeot cars. The 1.6L inline 4 turbocharge engine produces 167PS at 6,000rpm and 240Nm of torque from as low as 1,400rpm and mated to a 6 speed automatic transmission. The low end torque from the engine manages to pull this big MPV with ease. The acceleration for the MPV feels livelier compared to the 10.8s 0-100km/h sprint that is stated in the brochure. With a decent performance from the engine, the fuel efficiency is not compromised at all. The gear shifts are on point and smooth to prevent unnecessary jerks and lurches to keep the occupants comfortable on the go.

The McPherson strut upfront and flexible transverse beam at the rear is tune towards comfort side. The suspension does a good job in ironing out roads imperfections. When facing twisty roads, the suspension setup and electric power steering gives you confidence to take corners at a decent speed, and yet, body roll is kept in check.

The 4 wheels disc brakes bring the big MPV to a stop with ease, no feeling of wanting more from the brakes. Coming back to comfort, the Citroen Grand C4 Spacetourer have high NVH levels to make any occupants inside the car feels completely isolated from the road noise and wind noise.

If you’re in the market to get yourself a people carrier, we highly recommend you to give this funky looking MPV a try. The Citroen Grand C4 Spacetourer is quite a complete package when it comes to be a MPV, and you are sure to stand out from the crowd boxy MPVs. Priced at RM 149,888, Citroen Malaysia will provide you with 5 years/120,000KM warranty coverage and 3 years free roadside assistance coverage.
