Ferrari F12berlinetta comparison with F 599 GTB Fiorano
The F12berlinetta, based on the 599 GTB Fiorano design, marries the characteristics of a Formula One car with the most pleasing aspects of a road car. Never before have so many new elements and details formed a single project. With 740hp, a phenomenally flat torque curve, compact form, agile handing, optimum weight distribution and distinctive, aerodynamically honed shape, the new F12berlinetta marks a major stop forward in the history of 12-cylinder Ferraris. The F12berlinetta is undeniably powerful, but it is also efficient; it consumes and emits 30 percent lesser than the previous variant.
Ferrari F12berlinetta powertrain: Massive power output and torque
A new mid-front V12 engine propels the Super Sport to a power output of 740 hp and 690 Nm of torque. Its engine and driver’s seat have both been lowered, the wheelbase is shorter and a new suspension and gearbox layout has helped compact the rear. The result is a more compact car than the 599 GTB Fiorano. One that also has perfect weight distribution with 54% over the rear axle and a lower, pulled-back center of gravity to boot. Thanks to all these characteristics, the F12berlinetta delivers truly exceptional performance figures: 0-200 km/h in 8.5 seconds and a lap time at the Fiorano Circuit of just 1:23 seconds.
The F12berlinetta’s new spaceframe chassis and bodyshell employ 12 different aluminium alloys – some being used for the first time in the automotive sector – and an array of leading-edge assembly and joining technologies. This helped cut the car’s overall weight to just 1,525 kg and maximize its performance efficiency, boosting torsional rigidity by 20%.
As with every Ferrari, the F12berlinetta’s aerodynamics were developed hand-in-glove with its styling, resulting in a plethora of innovative solutions. Not least of these are the Aero Bridge, which uses the car’s bonnet to create downforce for the first time, and Active Brake Cooling, a system of guide vanes on the brake air ducts which open when brake operating temperatures are high enough. The result is that the F12berlinetta is the most aerodynamically efficient Ferrari ever (a figure of 1.12 – double that of the 599 GTB Fiorano) with a Cd of 0.299 and downforce of 123 kg at 200 km/h.
Styling cues for the Ferrari F12belinetta is an ongoing effort between Ferrari Style Center and Pininfarina, and its design centers around the car’s balanced proportions. Clothed in sleek, aggressively sculpted lines, the Super sport offers a superb standard of occupant space and comfort despite its compact dimensions.
Ferrari F12berlinetta availability
On ownership, the F12berlinetta is obviously meant for a select few at Naza Italia. There are essentially two colors for the Ferrari F12berlinetta; Rosso Berlinetta and Aluminium. Do check with the distributor on availability and color options.
