Porsche Taycan makes grand entrance into Malaysia

By now, everyone who’s anyway a petrolhead have heard of the Porsche Taycan, the brand’s very first all-electric sports car. Today, the 4-door Porsche Taycan has made its anticipated grand entrance into the Malaysian market, courtesy of Porsche Malaysia. The Porsche Taycan is offered in three versions, with a starting price of RM725,000.

The Taycan line-up starts with the Taycan 4S, then the Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S. The top-of-the-range Turbo S comes standard with Sport Plus and individual modes as part of the Sport Chrono package. The Sports Chrono is an option for the other Taycan variants.

In looks, the Taycan is a completely new platform by the folks at Porsche Stuttgart. The overall impression of the Taycan resembles that of current Porsche models, particularly the Panamera, but it comes standard  with  LED Matrix headlights with  Dynamic Light System Plus (Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo). The base Taycan has LED lights with dynamic lighting. The top flight Turbo S carries more Carbon-themed goodies including door sill guards, sport design sideskirts and rear diffusor (available as an option for the other variants). In addition, the Turbo S gets lightweight Ceramic Composite brakes.

Inside, the dashboard is inspired from the original 911 from 1963. It houses a freestanding 16.9-inch curved instrument cluster, a 10.9-inch infotainment display and an optional passenger display. The screens are combined to form an integrated glass band in a black-panel look. At the rear, there are “Foot garages” recesses in the battery footwell to ensure comfort for passengers. Upholstery is completely leather-free, the seats and most cabin elements are covered with recycled materials.

Massive Power without the struggles

The Porsche Taycan Turbo S generates up to 761 PS overboost power with launch control and a massive 1,050 Nm of torque. This enables a 0 – 100 km/h sprint in just 2.8 seconds. The Taycan Turbo gives 680 PS and 850 Nm and does 0 – 100 km/h in 3.2 secs. On electric power alone, the Turbo S offers a range of 412 kilometers, while the Turbo has a range of up to 450 km, The two Taycan Turbos’ have a preset top speed of 260 km/h.  The base Taycan 4S offers 530 PS, a century sprint of 4s and a top speed of 250 km/h and a range of 407 km. All Taycans have over 400 km range, thanks to the able Performance Battery Plus. After all, the Taycan is the first production vehicle with a system voltage of 800 volts instead of the usual 400 volts for electric cars. This is a particular advantage for Taycan drivers on the road: in just over 36 minutes, the battery can be fully recharged using the available 175 kW direct current (DC) chargers from the high-power charging network for a range of over 400 km. On charging solutions, the Taycan comes standard with a 22 kW Mobile Charger Plus and Home Energy Manager (these are for a limited time only).
