Proton’s famed sub-compact, the Iriz, has been recognized as Budget Car of the Year by the ASEAN Car of the Year committee. Launched two years earlier in September 2014, the Proton Iriz marked the National carmaker’s entry into the sub-compact segment.
The Proton Itiz has received a 5-star rating from ASEAN NCAP car for its rather complete safety features. Its active and passive safety features for all Iriz variants include the electronic stability control (ESC) with traction control, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), brake assist, hill hold assist (HHA) and a seat belt reminder (SBR) system.
In addition, the Proton Iriz had been built with Hot Press Forming that provides up to 5 times more strength than normal steel. The use of Hot Press Forming makes Proton the only Asian auto company to adopt the so-called German technology. In all, the Proton Iriz is designed and built not only to give optimum protection to customers but it is also an exciting and fun city car to drive with all the modern comfort, economical fuel consumption and convenient features,
Proton Iriz is powered by a four-cylinder VVT engine with a choice of either a five-speed manual gearbox or CVT transmission. The 1.3-liter comes in Standard and Executive options, while the 1.6-liter has Executive and Premium options. The price range for the Proton Iriz runs between RM41,520 until RM62,030.
According to Proton’s CEO Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, “Coupled with the recent awards received at the Malaysia Car of the Year Award 2016, we are once again truly humbled and very pleased with this recognition, especially since the Iriz was launched 2 years ago. We have loaded so much into the Iriz to give our customers better value and this ASEAN award vindicates our effort in this respect.”
In conjunction with the year-end festivities, Proton is offering rebates ranging from RM2,200 to RM4,000 as well as a 2 year free service or 40,000 km, whichever comes first for all Iriz variants.
