The scoop on the New Mazda CX-5

Launched today, the all-new CX-5 pays homage to Mazda’s ‘Soul in Motion’ design philosophy. Created to afford maximum passenger comfort and tantalise using the elegance of style, Deborah Joy Peter gets on board.

Following the recent media preview held at the brand’s Kulim-based Inokom plant on 28 September 2017, Bermaz Motor, the exclusive distributor of Mazda vehicles nationwide, today officially revealed to the Malaysian public its latest CX-5 collection. The automotive juggernaut’s most advanced by far, the globally-acclaimed crossover capsule features the SkyActiv-G 2.0L SkyActiv 2.5L, and SkyActiv-D 2.2L variants in eight colours.

Led by a selection of three premium hues namely Soul Red Crystal, Machine Grey, and Snowflake White Pearl, which respectively command an additional RM2,000, the remaining five options include Deep Crystal Blue, Sonic Silver, Meteor Grey, Jet Black, and Arctic White. As outlined in the last segment, the suite’s refined safety features accentuate the marque’s i-ACTIVSENSE technology created to enable incident-free motoring.

A defense system programmed to deliver pre-cash detection, the aforementioned aspect of the machine’s anatomy, which entails assistive devices such as milli-wave radars and cameras, has been modified to better combat potential hazards in manner which helps the driver avert collisions and reduces the severity of the situation where an accident cannot be avoided. Leading said charge is the car’s outstanding G-Vectoring Control abilities.

The essence of the label’s SkyActiv-Vehicle Dynamics, GVC is an automotive armour that works in tandem with the vehicle’s operator to ensure the machine directs forces on an extremely minute level—the degree is so delicate that not even the driver can achieve it by him- or herself. Basically, the primary objective is to significantly increase driving efficiency, allowing seamless acceleration and improved cornering when on the move.

Starring a redefined exterior, the CX-5, with the choice of a petrol or diesel engine, sports a bolder, more dynamic stance to convey the feeling of acceleration in a single movement. Such updates as a honeycomb-style grille and signature chrome wing, combined with sleeker headlights and rear lights with a double-layer molded outer lens, give the make the desirable makeover it deserves, sexy curves and all, to appeal to the male instinct.

Symbolic of Mazda’s Soul in Motion design philosophy, the fresh release is a personification of the corporation’s ongoing vision to present both brand loyalists and first-time buyers with a “living being” rather than just a mass of metal. Interior-wise, the model now sports an exceedingly symmetrical dashboard and elevated commander console to aid with orientation, grit, ergonomics, stability, and control. Talk about a man’s dream woman.

Additionally, a seven-inch full color touchscreen display complements a top-notch MZD Connect infotainment system, with its position realigned for added user convenience and reduced distraction. Meanwhile, the automaker’s dedication to craftmanship and build quality remain evident throughout. With an 85 percent soft touch, the inclusion of genuine leather and wood, alongside a metal finish, the variant brings together style and dazzle.

When asked what Mazda’s strategy entailed in courting the female audience, the brand turned to design elegance. “The vehicle is designed to be elegant. The CX-5 is bold and beautiful, so it will appeal to both segments. I trust that women will find it aesthetically pleasing. Where men might find it elegantly tough, females will be drawn to the comfort of its interiors as it has a soft, feminine touch. A lot of consideration went into achieving maximum passenger comfort,” Dato’ Seri Ben Yeoh, CEO of Bermaz Motor, told

All variants boast a SkyActiv-Drive six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode. The 2.0L and 2.5L are only available in 2WD, while the 2.2L available in 2WD and AWD.
