|At the New York Auto Show starting today, FHI (Fuji Heavy Industries) brought out the heavyweights Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid and Subaru WRX Concept to impress American Automotive enthusiasts.|
Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid
The Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid is the Subaru’s first hybrid vehicle and like all Subaru variants embodies “Enjoyment and Peace of Mind” driving experience. One major highlight of the Crosstrek Hybrid is the integration of a simple and practical hybrid system and Subaru’s renowned Symmetrical AWD System. For the NYC show, the XV Crosstrek Hybrid is specifically for the U.S. market for the time being.
In looks, the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid has several exclusive hybrid parts add-ons, compared to the Subaru XV petrol version, such as; rear combination lights, aluminium wheels and Hybrid badges at the front edges of the front doors and rear gate. In addition, a new body color “Plasma Green Pearl” is added for that Hybrid interpretation.
Interior-wise, the Subaru Crosstrek houses an exclusively designed instrument cluster. This instrument cluster uses gradations of the blue color scheme to create a sense of depth. The Multi-Function Display shows the hybrid system’s energy flow according to driving conditions.
A 2.0-litre DOHC Horizontally-Opposed 4-cylinder gasoline engine was partially modified for the hybrid model, including reduction in engine friction. Based on the Lineartronic (CVT) of the gasoline XV Crosstrek, a motor exclusively designed for the hybrid model was integrated inside the transmission case and is installed behind the primary pulley.
By installing the high voltage battery under the cargo space, the overall front rear weight distribution and the low center of gravity were maintained at the same level as the gasoline XV Crosstrek.
The hybrid system offers EV (Electric Vehicle) driving at low speeds and motor assist driving at medium speeds. Further, the system offers smooth and responsive acceleration with a motor assist function and the best-in-class fuel economy (Subaru’s claim).
For ride handling, the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid incorporates fresh front and rear suspension modifications, along with enhanced rigidity and revamped steering gear ratio for a sportier drive.

Subaru WRX Concept
The second highlight for Subaru at the NY Auto show’s Jacob K. Javits Center is none other than the WRX Concept – the next generation WRX.
The bold and muscular design emphasizes turbocharged power and AWD grip in a more agile and athletic form. The WRX Concept blends the WRX’s famous power and road-holding prowess with an even greater focus on sharp handling, steering and communicative chassis. To further improve handling dynamics, the WRX Concept features a carbon-fiber roof to enhance the car’s low center of gravity as well as to lower the performance car’s overall weight.
Considerably lower, sleeker and wider, the Subaru WRX Concept delivers even more street presence than previous generations of WRX. The new 3-D mesh grille is larger and bolder and sets off the classic WRX hood scoop. A pronounced powerbulge provides clearance for the new turbocharged engine and intercooler. A prominent hexagonal grille form and deep lower valences with air intakes are designed to enhance aerodynamics, add downforce and aid engine cooling.
A sharp character line runs from the front corner through to the taillights, intersected by the boldly flared wheel arches emphasizing the Subaru’s AWD system. The compact cabin represents the essence of power and solidity of the WRX Concept, yet much attention is derived from the wide stance – a visual link between body and chassis. The rear’s power motifs include; a dramatically curved trunk lid that also acts as a rear spoiler, a wide rear bumper, large 4-tailpipe arrangement and a diffuser. The BBS “RI-D” One Piece Forged Duralumin wheels and 245/40ZR20 tyres complete the WRX Concept’s package.
The newest Concept from Subaru is presented in that unmistakable “WR Blue Pearl III”, which modernizes the iconic WRX look. Fluorescent Yellow is used as an accent on the WRX badge on the front grille, the brake calipers and the exhaust tips.
