The 620R is the latest road-worthy track car by McLaren, just 350 units are available. The McLaren 820R inherits elements from the 570S GT4 and retains the DNA of a fully homologated track car and it is road legal. Shared examples from the 570S GT4 are the single-piece carbon fiber Monocell II chassis, adjustable aerodynamic elements, race-derived suspension components and there’s a powertrain recalibration for the 620R.
What powers the McLaren 620R
The 620R has the same M838TE 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine used in the GT4 car, but with a significant difference in power output (610bhp) and 620 Nm, most powerful in McLaren Sports Series yet. A 0-100km/h dash takes just 2.9 seconds. The powertrain includes the 7-speed Seamless Shift Gearbox (SSG) with Sport mode.

Some of the highlights for the 620R track car are; the two-way manually adjustable coilover dampers, and lightweight aluminium wishbones suspension with uprights, stiffer anti-roll bars and springs. Braking comprises carbon ceramic discs (390mm front, 380mm rear) and forged aluminium brake calipers all round. Tyres are P Zero Trofeo R semi-slicks, paired to 19-inch front wheels and 20-inch rear wheels.
Further improving aerodynamics is an adjustable carbon fiber rear wing, a distinguishing feature on the 620R. Exterior-wise, the 620R has redesigned front bumper, splitter and carbon-fiber bonnet.
Inside, the cabin clearly and immediately stands out as track-inspired car minus a floor carpet or a glovebox. air-conditioning, Navigation and an audio system (option to include is available, including a Bowers & Wilkins upgraded audio system). Other interior highlights include carbon fiber racing seats with six-point belts, red 12 o’clock mark on steering and door pull straps, and every else is practically all carbon fiber elements. Track telemetry system is standard for touchscreen and options include MSO Roof Scoop Upgrade Pack and three-camera system.
Each 620R features a dedication plaque on the center console with numerical identification, color of brake calipers and various customization options. Three colors are valid McLaren Orange (with white racing stripes), Silica White (orange stripes) or Onyx Black (orange stripes). Further body colors are available in the MSO line-build palette. An even more exclusive decal livery inspired by the McLaren Senna GTR is also available.
