UMW Toyota Motor to introduce four new variants: Hilux, Fortuner, Sienta and Alphard

2016 Toyota Sienta MPV Following a narrow loss to their rivals in the Non-National segment last year, UMW Toyota Motor has announced major strategies to reclaim back the lead in the non-national category. For the year, UMW Toyota Motor is set to introduce the all-new Toyota Hilux, Toyota Alphard/Vellfire, Toyota Fortuner and Toyota Sienta for the domestic market.

The 2016 Toyota Hilux is a totally re-engineered pick up, which comes in either a 2.4-liter or 2.8-liter powerplant, along with a 6-speed transmission and ATRC. The launch of the new Toyota Hilux is set for May in a possible Big Bang Tour, along with its close sibling, the Toyota Fortuner. Currently, the Toyota Hilux consists of the 2.5-liter and 3.0-liter variations, while the Fortuner is available in a 2.5-liter and a couple of 2.7-liter options.

Next in line is the Toyota Sienta Compact MPV and the popular Alphard/Vellfire range, tentative for third quarter introductions. The Sienta, already a hit in Indonesia, is deemed a Real 7-seater, with a typical long wheelbase, one-pull second row seat for easy access to the rear seats and wide third-row seats to actually fit adults. There’s also ample storage space, with the rear seats folded down. In looks, the Toyota Sienta takes up the new-generation Yaris’ exterior motifs, with a contemporary V-shaped LED headlights, single-framed front grille and unique rear combination lights. Preliminary Sienta specifications comprise of a 1.5-liter DOHC engine and 16-inch wheels, paired to 195 50 R16 tyres.

The Toyota Alphard or Vellfire needs no further introduction in this country. Even before UMW Toyota Motor had made the variant available under its product portfolio in April 2014, the Alphard or Vellfire has been preferred choices for large MPV enthusiasts, give or take their budgets. Thanks to the mass availability in the grey market, the second-generation Alphard was promptly added to UMW Toyota Motor’s product portfolio two years earlier. The Toyota Alphard is defined by its Monotform, Majectic design cues with prominent flares at the front and rear wheel arches. Interior fancies on the 2nd-gen Alphard consists of a premium cabin. plush leather with woodgrain trims, chrome-finish appointments, an 8-way adjustable driver’s seat and crystal clear Optitron meters; just to name a few.

The current Alphard 2.4 is expected to be converted to the Vellfire 2.5-liter in 2016, whereas the previous Alphard 3.5 is maintained as the Alphard 3.5 and expanded to a more valued added version, the Alphard 3.5 Executive Lounge (EL). UMW Toyota Motor plans to unveil the new Alphard sometime in the third quarter of the year, in September more precisely.
