|Fresh from its recent Always by Your Side Pledge, Volkswagen Malaysia is again active with another endeavor – the Celebrity Charity Drive, in collaboration with Smartphone application developer, Uber.|
Aptly themed the “UberVWDrive”, the first time partnership between Volkswagen Malaysia and Uber saw the smartphone app company organize a one-day only charity drive event. As part of the initiative, over 50 celebrities drove the nominated Volkswagen cars in the quest to raise awareness for the Wolfsburg-based marque, as well as funds for selected charity organizations. Celebrities who participated in the UberVWDrive included; Sazzy Falak, Ean Nasrun & Jinnyboy, Afdlin Shauki, Joyce Wong, Yasmin Hani, Lisa Surihani, Dynas Mokhtar, Sheena Liam, Reshmonu, Phat Fabes, JJ, Moots Shuvit, Sarah Lian, among others.
The funds raised at the UberVWDrive was to be channelled to a charity organization, nominated by each celebrity. The monies were imparted based on the number of trips completed by the partaking celebrities. Obviously, their funds wouldn’t match that of Volkswagen Malaysia and the smartphone app company. Almost the entire Volkswagen line-up was made available for this charitable cause, with some of most recognizable VW variants in the country all lined up for the UberVWDrive; there’s the Scirocco, Tiguan, Touareg, Beetle, Polo, Passat, Golf, Jetta and Cross Touran.
Armin Keller, Managing Director of Volkswagen Malaysia, remarked, “As a leading mobility provider, we at Volkswagen are very excited for the opportunity to give back to society. This is of course consistent with our newly-unveiled tagline, Always by your side. We are thrilled with this partnership with Uber and to spread some cheer this festive season.”
Prior to the UberVWDrive, participating celebrities underwent a familiarization program by Volkswagen Malaysia and the event’s partner. The celebs were trained on Uber app’s functions and provided car and driver information.
Since the inaugural charity drive went fairly well, it’s likely that Volkswagen M’sia would continue to hold this meaningful endeavor in the following year.
