Volkswagen’s Icon receives customary updates

Volkswagen Group Malaysia has announced the availability of the upgraded Beetle 1.2TSI, also in a Sports version, for the domestic market. The refreshed Volkswagen Beetle should remain a firm favorite city car and continue to bring the iconic buzz to domestic drivers, especially the fairer sex. VWGM (Volkswagen Group Malaysia) has initiated the “Get Happy with The Beetle” campaign to introduce the ‘Icon’ to the public proper.

At the front, the Beetle comes with Bi-Xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights (1.2 TSI Sport only); electronically adjustable, foldable and heated exterior mirrors; front fog lights with static cornering lights; and 16-inch ‘Whirl’ alloy wheels, with 215/60 R16 tyres.

Final touches ensure a more refined interior for the new Volkswagen Beetle

Emulating the feel of the classic bug, the latest Beetle retains the distinctive Beetle glove box, dash pad
painted in body color, front-center armrest, leather gearshift knob and a multi-function leather steering with switches. The regular Beetle takes up the RCD 310 8-speaker audio unit which plays a single CD, compatible with Bluetooth, even has USB connectivity. On the other hand, the higher range Beetle 1.2 TSI Sport spots a ‘RCD 510’ touch screen radio system with 6 CD changer, as well as an SD-card slot, sport seats with “Vienna” leather, lumbar support, dual-zone ‘Climatronic’ air-conditioning system, paddle shifters and a cruise control switch.

The Beetle is moved by a 1.2l TSI direct petrol injection turbocharged engine that’s paired to a 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG). Output is a respectable 105PS, while torque is 175Nm from 1,550 to 4,100rpm; with a top speed of 180km/h. At the same time, fuel consumption is a very decent 5.9 liters/100km or 16.9km/liter on a combined cycle.

Volkswagen doesn’t spare anything when it came to safety, hence the updated Beetle has received a host of features; which enabled the compact a 5-star Euro NCAP status. New in the Beetle is its anti-theft alarm system with electronic immobilizer. Additionally, there are the 3-point belts with tensioners, safety-optimized front headrests, a multitude of airbags, ABS, Brake Assist, ESC, Hill Hold Control, Park Distance Control, and the ISOFIX points at the rear.
